Pigeons, Rats and Roaches

Verse 1

There’s a swamp on the edge a town

Jest as swampy as can be

Some big developer

bought it from James DuPree

They’re gonna build a mall there

They’re drainin’ and truckin’ in fill

Now some damn tree-huggers is

Tryin’ to get that project killed

Verse 2

They all worried ‘bout the narrow-mouth toad

Just a few of them weird things left

And a woodpecker with a big white bill

that nests in snags and clefts

I say cut them ugly snags

Cover that toad with ceement

Send all them ecoooloogists

Back to the Goverrment.

Chorus1

Cause I’m tired of hearin ‘em babble

bout “species diversity”

Pigeons, rats and roaches

Is good enough for me

Verse 3

Ain’t been nothing new round here

since the dual highway come through

It took 10 minutes off my drive

to the Club Peek-a-Boob

Now enviro-freaks are marchin’ with signs

McDonald’s is havin’ doubts

Fonda Fay down at Ray’s Cafe

said Wal-Mart may pull out

Chorus2

It’s time we had some modern stuff

Just like in the city

Yeah pigeons, rats and roaches

Is good enough for me

Verse 4

Them Audeebones is fulla crap

There’s plenny a birds, I know

Right outside the Legion Hall

I seen a sparrow, a starling and a crow

Some freak gets in front of my dozer

When I’m fixin’ to push a stump

I’ll make ‘im like a fox on the Interstate

Big stain, some hairs, and a lump

Modified chorus and ending

Cause I’m tired of hearin’ ‘em babble

bout species diversity

What we need is mean wildlife

For this mean century

That don’t mind acid in their rain,

mercury in their feed

Like pigeons, rats and roaches

That’s what this country needs

Yeah, pigeons, rats and roaches

Is good enough for me
